Each month, tentatively on the second Wednesday, the Deer Valley Men’s Golf Club plays a tournament with a $5.00 sweepstakes. The tournaments are flighted by the Tees played and by Handicap groupings. Tournament descriptions and rules can be found on the following links.
The Official end of each Wednesday play and Tournament Play is the moment the Monitor posts the results on the Club Bulletin Board at Deer Valley Golf Course.

Medal Play Tournament
In order to be more inclusive of our members, the Rules governing the Medal Play Club Championship have been modified to accommodate our members varying levels of handicap but will at least a two-week commitment.
- ALL members will participate in the Medal Play Club Championship (excludes Social Members)
- If a Deer Valley Men’s Golf Club Member is a member of more than one SCW Men’s Golf League, they must play in Deer Valley Men’s League at least 5 out of 8 weeks immediately prior to any DVMGC league Tournaments, (i.e., Medal Play and Match play), otherwise the member will not qualify to play in those tournaments for the Deer Valley Club Championship title.
- Eligible Play will be on 3 Consecutive Wednesdays in February
- $5 Sweeps will be collected each week: $2 for Weekly Low Gross/Low Net and $3 for Club Championship
- The February 1 Handicaps will be used for all Medal Play
- Players will be flighted by their February 1 Handicaps
- The aggregate of the Player’s BEST 2 scores will be used to determine the GROSS and NET Winners
- Each flight will have a Low Gross and Low Net Winner
- The Lowest Overall GROSS aggregate score will be the “DVMGC Medal Club Low Gross Champion” and represent the DVMGC in the April “Saturday Shootout.”
- The Lowest Overall LOW aggregate score will be the “DVMGC Medal Club Low Net Champion.”
The Weekly Sweeps, Blind Bogey and Closest to the Pin contests will run concurrently on these three-week Tournaments.
Match Play Tournament
Modified STABLEFORD Tournament
The MODIFIED STABLEFORD Tournament will be individual stroke play (for Handicap Purposes and Blind Bogey) with a TEAM Component. Players will play from their normal tees, NO moving up. NO gimme putts, each player must finish the hole.
Points are awarded by hole based on the GROSS Score.
The POINTS earned are as follows:
Double Eagle or Hole-in-One…………….6 points
Eagle……………………………………………….4
Birdie……………………………………………….3
Par………………………………………………….2
Bogey……………………………………………….1
Double Bogey and Higher…….……………….…0
Team Score is the SUM of all Player’s Points PLUS the Team Handicap.
Move-Up Scramble
1. All Players will MOVE UP ONE TEES.
If you NORMALLY play from the White Tees, you’ll play from the GOLD
If you NORMALLY play from the GOLD TEES you’ll play from the RED
*GREEN TEE PLAYERS will play from GREEN TEES
2. All players tee off as normal,ONE ball is chosen to be played next. All Players will hit from the spot. This Scramble format will be repeated until ball is holed out.
3. THROUGH THE GREEN, The ball can be played within ONE Club length of the original ball, No Closer to the Hole staying in the same type of ground. Example Original ball in the fairway within one club in the fairway, One club length on the fairway. Original ball in the Desert, Rough or Bunker, One club length in those areas.
4. ON THE GREEN balls must be played within ONE CLUB HEAD Length of the original balls potions, No Closer to the Hole.
5. FOURSOMES – Each Players DRIVE MUST be used 4 Times during the round.
6. THREESOMES- Each Players DRIVE MUST be used 5 Times during the round.
7. Team Score is the GROSS SCORE, but Teams should be flighted by 3or 4 Players; and grouped by total combined handicaps.
Red, White and Blue Tournament
1. The Tournament will be individual stroke play, with a TEAM component.
2. Players will play from their normal tees, NO Moving Up.
3. No gimme putts, each player must finish each hole
4. Player’s individual scores will be posted as a Tournament Score.
5. The TEAM Score will be calculated based on the Flag color for that hole.
- Holes with a Blue Flag will record the BEST ONE NET Score as the TEAM Score.
- Holes with a White Flag will record the BEST TWO NET Scores as the TEAM Score..
- Holes with a Red Flag will record the BEST THREE NET Scores as the TEAM Score.
6. Teams will be flighted by 3 or 4 players; and by the team’s overall handicap.
SHAMBLE Tournament
- A SHAMBLE is a type of golf tournament that combines elements of a Scramble with elements of regular handicapped Individual Stroke Play.
- All Players tee off from their normal tees, No Moving Up.
- As in a Scramble, The Best Shot is selected, the other balls are moved to that spot*, then its Individual Stroke Play until each member of the group has holed out. This repeats on each hole.
- No Gimme Putts, Everyone holes out!
- Please note for the SECOND shot only:
- *THROUGH THE GREEN, the ball can be played within ONE Club length of the selected ball, no closer to the hole, but staying in the same type of ground. Example: Original ball on fairway, within ONE CLUB length on the fairway; Original ball in desert, within ONE CLUB length in the desert; Original ball in bunker, within ONE CLUB length in the bunker. From this point, the hole is played out at stroke play, with all members of the team playing their own ball into the hole.
- *ON THE GREEN, balls must be played within ONE CLUBHEAD length of the original ball’s position, no closer to the hole.
- Once the Players ball is “In Play” after the SECOND shot, regular USGA Rules of Individual Stroke Play are in effect.
- Each Player’s drive must be used at least 4
- Players will use their full current handicaps to figure their NET score for each hole.
- The Lowest Two Net Scores will be recorded as the TEAM Score.
Individual scores from this tournament are not eligible for posting for handicapping purposes.
YELLOW BALL Tournament
Tournament will be individual Stroke Play with a Team Component.
The Official Scorecard will be marked to indicate which Player will use the YELLOW BALL on which holes.
Each Player in a Foursome will play the YELLOW BALL on 4 different holes during the Tournament.
Each Player in a Threesome will play the YELLOW BALL on 4 different holes during the Tournament.
The YELLOW BALL score, PLUS ONE LOW NET, will be scored on each hole.
The holes without a YELLOW mark will score the TWO LOW NET scores.
The YELLOW BALL MUST be returned to the Monitor after the round to qualify for prizes.
Players individual scores will be posted as a TOURNAMENT SCORE
COLORAMA Tournament
1. The Tournament will be individual stroke play with a TEAM Component.
2. Players will play from their normal Tees.
3. No Gimme putts, each player must finish the hole.
4. Each Player will have a Designated Color on the Official Score Card.
5. The Flag Sticks will have a Color Indicator on the bottom of the Flag.
6. Each Player will have 4 holes with their Color indicated.
7. For holes where the Players Color is indicated, the TEAM Score will be That Player’s NET Score, Plus the Lowest Net Score from the other Players.
8. On holes with NO Color indicator, the Team Score will be the Lowest Two NET Scores.
9. Teams will be flighted by 3 or 4 players; and by teams overall handicaps.
10. Players individual scores will be posted as Tournament Scores.
